Recipes: Caramel Banana Tarts

These are about the simplest desserts we make - and we love to vary the toppings.

Take a sheet of shortcrust pastry and cut into 8 rectangles. Place on baking trays lined with baking paper. brush with beaten egg and th...en sprinkle with a mixture of Demerara sugar and cinnamon. Bake at 200c for about 10-12 minutes until golden and cooked.

Spread the tarts with some caramel (we use Carnation canned caramel - whisked to create a nice sauce), top with sliced banana and either a dollop of whipped cream or a squirt of cream from a can. You could also sprinkle with crumbled flakes for a little extra indulgence.

Some either flavours we have tried are nutella, topped with drained mandarins for a chocolate orange tart; white chocolate spread and raspberries, nutella and strawberries - or just spread with some apple sauce or apple pie filling for a VERY quick apple tart crunch.
