Autumn Fun at Stowe Gardens

We spent a fabulous fall day out at Stowe Gardens in Buckingham.  We are National Trust members so we get out to explore as many lovely spaces as possible each year.  Our son really enjoys the outdoors and, no matter the season, always finds something fascinating to learn more about on a woodland walk.  Stowe is gorgeous - the house is not National Trust but is still open to visitors - but the gardens gave us the most beautiful setting for a fresh Autumn walk.  Around every twist and turn of the garden pathways you can find another fascinating statue, temple, monument or grotto.

Visitor facilities are excellent and the cafe serves a delicious glass of hot chocolate, complete with marshmallows and whipped cream, as the perfect ending to a brisk Autumn woodland walk.

During our visit there was a special Pumpkin Trail event for the children, 10 pumpkins with witches brew ingredients hidden around the gardens.  Our little adventurer had great fun finding them all.  The "treat" for completing the trail was a sweetie but only after you'd decided what the effects of consuming the potion should be.  C decided that fairy dust, lizard legs, frog toes, leaves, spider webs  et al, when combined and consumed, would turn you as orange as a Halloween Pumpkin!

All in all, highly recommend Stowe as a great place for all the family, the pathways are all well maintained and suitable for most abilities and well behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are happy to stay on a lead.  We will definitely be heading back during each of the 4 seasons to see how the look and feel of these beautiful gardens changes.
